Today we went to the Rio Tinto Bauxite mine here in Weipa. It is the largest bauxite mine in the world. It was just a 2-hr bus tour -where we couldn't get out due to OH&S reasons - so that was a bit disappointing, but I found it pretty good. The others didn't.
Anyway here are some photos, including a couple from a last week that either K wanted, or a special request from Alison. Some mine shots for you too Ron. Sunsets for Phil.

For Alison J - Palm cockatoos!!

Foggy morning at Moreton Telegraph Station
 Camp at Weipa
Dumper being filled of 170 tonne of Bauxite by a Loader
 Raw Bauxite...
Bauxite sits on avg about 2m high just under the surface.
Trucks dump ore in top, gets filtered, then goes across conveyor to be loaded on train.
Train takes ore to shipping terminal. Each of the 28 carriages carries 100 tonne

  1. Great photos Mark. Looks like the trip is going well. Are you taking the boat out at Weipa? I thought the fishing is supposed to be fantastic there.
